More making America Great Again news affecting Oshawa and large surrounding area including Peterborough
Last night around 7 PM Facebook broke out with the news that GM is going to announce the next day that GM will be ceasing operations in 2019 at the Oshawa plant. Oshawa is GM. It would be a crazy thought not to have the two working together. Since last night not much more has been said about the closure other then the company did confirm that it is reorganizing its operation with the closure. So far today politicians have been pointing fingers, employees are reeling and the union heads are pissed off. I have a few thoughts. One, if the plant closes there will be a lot of devastated families in our area. I do hope that over the year before closure a solution can be founded to keep the plant open. We have been down this path before and the plant has survived. Another thought, did we Canadians not give GM a huge bailout in the billions of dollars to keep the plant open in 2008 only to have GM announce the closure 10 years later? I am hoping the powers to be can figure a solution out to continue to keep the thousands of jobs in place and keep our economy rolling.
Selwyn Road going to get some love. What is a Community Cafe?

November 20/2018 Walk and Talk -Major route closed tomorrow for a few days -New Selwyn Township trail opens today #roads #bradsinclair #selwyn
Hey everybody , Brad Sinclair here, your local Realtor,
solving problems and making things happen in real estate since 2007. Sit back and relax this video should be only
a few minutes long.
I read a post from Selwyn Township this week and have
seen nothing more about it announcing Tomorrow , November 21st, the 4 way stop
intersection of Towerhill Road & Fairbairn Street will be CLOSED for 2-3
days.
Balterre Contracting Ltd. are closing the intersection to
facilitate water main installation for the Lily Lake Subdivision
Today will be
the Official Opening of the Andrew Trail
at 4:00pm at the trail entrance between 249 & 257 Eastwood Rd.
This neighbourhood
trail has been built on the Andrew Avenue road allowance. This rustic trail
provides a wonderful walking path for residents, connecting the subdivisions of
Eastwood Road and Patricia Crescent.
A plaque will be
unveiled to celebrate the opening of the trail and to commemorate the 50th year
anniversary of a tragic school bus accident that occurred on November 21, 1968
and resulted in the loss of two Eastwood Road residents; Shirley Cunningham
(16) and Shelley Riel (17). The Cunningham and Riel families were one of the
first residents on Eastwood Road. I do remember my mother told me about this
accident. I believe it happened on Lily Lake Road by Stockdale Rd. I will have to ask her.
That is all I have for you today.

Hey everybody , Brad Sinclair here, your local Realtor,
solving problems and making things happen in real estate since 2007. Sit back and relax this video should be only
a few minutes long.
This weekend my daughter and I went to Oshawa for her to
play a hockey game. We went to the Legends Centre. What an amazing complex.
This community centre had 4 ice pads, Pool facility with lazy river, fitness
centre, splash pad. It was an investment in the community. The tournaments and
activities that building would bring to the area would be amazing. So here’s
the thought I had. The Peterborough Memorial Centre needs to be replaced. The
city was talking about doing a double pad as well at Trent. Can we roll this
all up into one? Think big here now. Build An OHL arena with a 4 to 6 ice pad
complex with a pool and fitness centre. Close down the aging Kinsman and
Northcrest arenas. You would be consolidating your staff and costs. Why have
Arenas has spread throughout the city?
What is the status of the Peterborough
Lakers 2019 season? Has anybody heard? I’m wondering how the new counsel will
handle this situation. Will they follow staff directions and ultimately
destroyed the Peterborough Lakers as the last council was looking at doing or
will they find a solution to fix the floor and have a Laker season. If anybody
has any information on what’s going on please feel free to comment or direct
message me. I would love to know.
That is all I have for you today.

Who is right and who is wrong in the Pigeon Lake Wild Rice Issue
Last week I posted my thoughts about an article that I read in the Peterborough This Week about the wild rice disagreement between James Whetung and the residence waterfront owners of Pigeon Lake. Here is the video I posted:
I have had comments on my video which I read them all. One comment I deleted and maybe I should not have. This comment said I was the seller of stolen lands. White supremacist. I should be ashamed of this video. She also commented this is such a “white” line of thinking. I was called a racist.
I see everyone as equals. In my mind I have no more rights then you and you have no more rights then me. I don’t look at someone and determine their motives because of their colour of their skin. I believe that we all can work together as a community. Does this make me a racist?
One fault that I will admit to is not giving much credit to what happen hundreds of years ago. I don’t view myself as a “cottager” I view this as my home and I belong here even though my ancestors from hundreds of years ago came from Scotland and England. I also do find it hypocritical that some scream about traditional activities then use modern equipment to carry out so called traditional activities.
This all said this is what I believe should happen to solve in this dispute:
- The people of Curve Lake should have full and exclusive rights to harvest Wild Rice in Pigeon Lake
- A number of acres of Wild Rice needed to feed the community should be determined by Curve Lake First Nation
- Wild Rice is for traditional uses and it should be gathered in traditional ways.
- Property owners along Pigeon Lake should be able to apply for a permit from Parks Canada to clean up a certain amount of space in front of their property for their enjoyment
- Wild Rice is wild. Seeding is not wild. That is a crop. Seeding will be limited to the amount of Wild Rice that is determined needed by Curve Lake First Nation to feed the community. Curve Lake and Parks Canada will work together to seed if necessary.
I believe these recommendations would satisfy both communities. It will not satisfy individual people of course but it is about the whole not some. Is these surggestions really that outrageous?
I would like to see this issue resolved as it creates division between our two communities. It is time that a solution is put in place instead of dancing around political correctness and single individuals taking action on what they feel they are entitled to. This issue is now much bigger then individuals and now the community leaders must take action.
